QiGong and Taijiquan

What is Qigong & Taijiquan?

Qigong is a box of tricks. It is a series of techniques and theories that can be seen as a manual for right use of mind and body. Qigong is certainly not only the slow and gentle moving of your body to unstress. This level of application is called `heil gymnastics' and is part of medical Qigong. Medical Qigong itself can be determined according to two approaches:

1. Exercise Therapy

In this form of Qigong you will get certain exercises to cure certain diseases, for instance: headache, backache, swelling of liver, depression etc. The exercise aims at regulating qi and blood flow in the channels and thus at correcting physical or mental disturbance. The workingmethod and the prognosis are slow but fairly good. Regular Qigong as is mostly practiced in the west belongs mostly to this category, but aims at achieving a general balance and recuperation of essential power substances (Jing). Not every method is equally suitable to everyone.

2. Qi Therapy

In Qi therapy the therapist uses his or her Qi power to regulate the flow of Qi and blood within the channels, the size of the functioning of your organs or the spaces between your joints or other functions of body and mind, next to the self exercising of the client. Traditional Qigong methods for diagnosis like the bodyscan can be used by the therapist for this. The Yin Yang Center specialises in this kind of medical Qigong. Our Oriental College / International Qigong Academy is one of the few schools in the world where this way of medicine can be studied and exercised academicly.

Qigong is mostly a science though, in which there is place for intuitive insight, factual knowledge and physical & mental exercise. Along these you develop step by step control over the energy processes that shape your thinking, feeling and health. Next to this you learn to recognise difference and sameness between mind and body through a.o. diciplining of your soul (ling), (a technique for harnessing spiritual or soulpowers that are prerequisite for developing scan capabilities, unition with nature as it is etc). Because these techniques do not only teach you how to communicate with yourself, but also with others and your surrounding (not allways verbally), Qigong can be called a communication science as well. Qigong works at a variety of energetic levels. Everything between heaven and earth is connected to the learning proces. One can therefore discern internal practice and external practice. Internal practice is to regulate and strengthen the internal Qi's. External practice has as a purpose to learn produce external qi and control this, as well as creating a continual exchange between the qi insode your body and outside it to stay pure. With advanced students this leads to the energy transference of Qi/information (or function control). This is a nuclear part of The Qigong learning proces. The personal experience with this proces from your teacher is determining the results that you can achieve as a student (unless you are a natural talent, a feedback mechanism from nature to prevent quality loss of human capacities). Ask your teacher at all times if he or she can share this direct Qi experience with you without you having to do anything for it. This will help you to achieve a high energy level in a shorter time, and also to become independent more quickly in controling your energy.

Qigong is an instrument for transforming blockages inside your body-mind system and your life as a whole. It is a yeasting proces in which you will gradually find out what is the reality behind your reality experiencing. Technique is for this of more importance than form. Qigong teachings contain traditionally yoga (baduajin or other styles for musscle and tendon transformation), meditation, polarity exercises, dynamic movement practice, trancework and theory. As a whole there are more than 30.000 Qigongs in existence. Progressing from general practice for personal development does Qigong offer a large amount of applications isn different fields of professional activity. In that sense Qigong is a science for the future, a.o. because it teaches you to deal properly with the hightened speed of 21st century life, without slowing down yourself. The Yin Yang Center does not only teach people in companies, but also teaches to apply the aquired skills directly in work or worksurroundings.

Qigong (and the subscience of Fengshui) is the oldest ergonomic science in the world. It teaches you how to adapt to your surroundings, instead to adapt your surrolundings against high costs to you.

Qigong is supposed to accentuate your personal individuality and stimulate your capacity to be critical. Because Qigong is proceswork can qigong practice without proper guidance after a shorter or longer time of practice be harmfull for your health. Like the classics state: 'If it can't harm, it can't benefit!'.
